An insect approach to sustaining humans and habitats
The Madagascar Biodiversity Center (MBC) is a Malagasy NGO and scientific hub based in Antananarivo, dedicated to harnessing Madagascar’s insect diversity to address today’s most urgent challenges: forest loss, food insecurity, and climate change.
Founded in 2006 from a passion to document Madagascar’s spectacular insect life, MBC quickly learned—through years of fieldwork and community engagement—that forest protection is impossible when nearby families are hungry. This realization reshaped our mission.
Today, MBC leads world-class research and innovation to turn insects into allies for resilience: developing insect-based solutions that improve nutrition, restore soils, and strengthen rural livelihoods, while safeguarding one of Earth’s most extraordinary biodiversity hotspots.
At the heart of our mission is training the next generation of Malagasy scientists, ensuring that local leadership drives long-term conservation and sustainable development in Madagascar and beyond.
